Sara & Sean got married at the delightfully artsy, wonderfully campy & just plain gorgeous Essex Conference Center & Retreat. It’s a perfect little oasis of creativity and soul-feeding quiet, tucked back in the woods in Essex, MA. I got out of the car and immediately sensed why they fell in love with it.
Sara and many of their guests are deaf, and their entire ceremony was performed in sign language (with the exception of a couple of readings) and translated/interpreted for their hearing guests. Everyone was totally tuned in…it was amazing – no cell phones, no whispers – 100% of the crowd was watching and listening and absorbing the whole thing. It was incredibly special, and even more special was watching the expressions on Sara & Sean’s faces throughout. Their guests were tuned into them, but they were tuned into each other. My heart got all warm and fuzzy when it was time for their super-sweet vow exchange…done, again, in sign language (extra kudos to Sean, for signing his vows like a pro) and said so beautifully.
Both of them come from incredibly sweet families – Sara’s parents took turns putting everyone in stitches with their speeches/performances at the reception. Sean’s family, an incredibly tight-knit group, ruled their corner of the dance floor. I had to keep tearing myself away – they were so entertaining!!!
Thanks for an amazing day, and for letting me into your lives for a while…it was a gift!
XOXO – Sarah
